Portable Pocket Shark Steam Cleaner Review

The people at Euro Pro, the company that is most famous for the shark steam mop and their latest update the Shark Steam Pocket Mop has just released their latest product the Shark Portable Steam Pocket. It is basically a hand held version on the mop so that you can easily clean just about every surface in your house. What makes the Shark Steam Cleaners so popular is that you are able to clean and disinfect with out the use of chemicals. One of the features I really like about the Portable Steamer is that it does not store hot water inside the unit. Instead, it stores cool tap water in the base and then has an instant steam chamber that creates the steam and pushes it out through the hose to the pocket attachment.

The Shark Portable Pocket comes with five very helpful attachments. The one I liked the most was the wedged shaped one. It works great on appliances like the front of the fridge, stove and cabinets. Steam comes out all four sides of the wedge, which is great because it give you a lot of surface to clean with before you have to use another pad. There is also a wand attachment that is great for those hard to reach places such as door handles, couch, or just about any place you want to clean and sanitize. Finally there is the dusting wand, which can be used on blinds, lampshades, and other hard to reach places. There is also a jet attachment, which shoots steam in a powerful stream for intense cleaning. The infomercial showed them using the portable steamer on rims of a car. I would be interested to see how well this really works. It’s also got an attachment for cleaning grout both in the kitchen and in the bathroom. I hate trying to keep grout clean so this is a great tool for me.

The Shark Portable Steam Pocket is being sold for $99 dollars but can be found cheaper if you shop around. It can be bought off the Shark website for 3 payments if you don’t want to pay for it all upfront. The company does offer a money back guarantee so if you don’t like it you can return it. However, you will be charged for the shipping so just be ready for that.

Do you own the Shark Portable Steamer? Have you been happy with the product? Where do you find it cleans the best? Leave a comment and share your experience.

I was happy to find your review, as I have been considering buying one of these.

Do you know if it works on stainless steel refrigerator doors? The refrigerator and range hood shown (but not mentioned) in the commercial might be look-alike and not real stainless. And it is obvious that they don't brag about cleaning stainless steel appliances, which should be a big selling point for them, given the recent popularity of stainless.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I just bought a shark pocket steamer. i'll let everyone know how it works once i've tried it.

I have the steam mop & I love it. My kitchen is quite big & it cleans the linoleum tile beautifully. I want to try the new portable pocket, but really haven't seen any reviews. I'll check back or if I end up getting one I'll right a review.

I just bought one but I'm hestitant to try it out. I would like to hear from someone who has actually used it first. I saw it on TV and had to get it, it looked too good to be true. I found mine at Target for 79.99 and Target also gave me a 10.00 gift card when I purchased it.

I bought this about a week ago. I have two dogs and a cat that are indoors only. I have noticed there is less dust settling since I have steamed the house thoroughly. I used it on fabrics, baseboards, mattresses, stainless appliances and windows. My husband used the garment attachment to steam his shirts and he said he was impressed. I have since bought one for both my mother and mother in law. It was 80 at bed bath and beyond and I used their 20%off coupon to get it for 64.00

I have the pocket mop and LOVE it, so thought I would love the portable steamer too. Unfortunately, I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be. I got as a gift for Christmas and couldn't wait to get it home. I first tried my jewelry and it did an okay job, better than paying $90 for someone to clean my watch - as I'd been quoted before. So, that was okay. The kitchen cabinets did okay, but I have to say it's a bit cumbersome to hold the container and the button while trying to reach in high places, as the connection cord is rather short - overall OK on that. The duster wasn't great on the blinds at all - made more of a mess than anything else with the dust and steam...better to use a paper towel - but, ok on furniture. Shower squeegy was ok, but really didn't work as well as I thought...felt like I was working as hard, if not harder, than if I just 'cleaned' it myself. Overall not a bad one, just not anything like I thought it would be.

Too much of a hassle for me to continue with. While I've tried a few just once, it's enough to know I'm going to return as the $79 gift can go elsewhere to other items I really need.

Still love the pocket mop, though - and definitely recommend that!

I have one and have used it twice and I very seriously thinking about sending it back but ordered off TV so will have to pay shipping. All it really seems to do is spread the dust or dirt around. I would not recommend it!!

Anonymous said...

Just got one yesterday and was kind of excited about trying it out. I was definitely disappointed and am returning it after the holidays. It might...might get out light stains and gives off the effect of sanitizing but I found myself cleaning up after it. As another post stated, it does seem to push dirt and dust around. I also used it on the couch to "sanitize" it. Not sure if it did anything. Overall on a scale of 1 to 10...I give it a 1. At $20.00, the rating would go up but at $79.00...no way!

I was so excited to use this product after having much success with the steam mop. HOWEVER, while using the product somehow the end came off, and the steamer got stuck to my sweatshirt and burned my skin bad. I thought maybe I didn't have the piece on right, but my husband played with it, and the same thing again.

Anonymous said...

Do any of these steam products work on floor tile grout?

H. McFadden said...

I have a steam mop and have had no luck with grout. I have found only harsh chemicals to be successful, then you must seal the grout. Otherwise you'll face this problem again in just a few weeks. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

I have the Shark Portable Pocket. What a waste of money. It does NOT work on grout. It does NOT work on grease. It's just steam. You are just spraying with very hot water. If you have real filth, it's not going to clean it. It may heat the grease so you can scrub it off but it's work. I love the Bissel Flip It. It squirts out the water and chemical and sucks it back in. You can see the dirt. Another good product is the Scooba and Dirt Dog. If you have pets, get the Dirt Dog. The are by Roomba (I think). I love it. I'm busy. They do the work while I work on something else.

I have the Shark Pocket Steamer, and after waiting 3 week for my "free shipping" I was very thrilled to have it... that ended after holding the button, and the wedge made my hand and arm very sore. How can you actually used the bristle brush attachment to clean golf clubs by yourselt? You really need three hands. The product failed at my shower wall and my oven door... pretty much the reason I got it...NOT impressed... the ladies on TV are so convincing... but why would you drag this contraption out to clean a cutting board? WAY more trouble than it is worth! I am sending in back...no need for a 60 day challenge!

I HATE the Shark portable steamer. I hate their "customer service" even more. The steamer is useless - too many attachments, not enough steam, hard to use, hard to change attachments But just try to return it - no anwer online so I called them. The phone would simply "die" when I asked for return info. Sometimes the phone would ring busy for days. I was told I would get an email with an RA and mailing label attached - never got it. I paid $15 to return it and they sent it BACK to me! There is something criminal going on here.

Anonymous said...

I got mine last week. It will be going back tomorrow. Too cumbersome, does not do glass doors well, scrubbing pad fell apart after first use.

Anonymous said...

It arrived 2 days after I ordered it online and I have tired every attachment on all different areas. It heated up quickly and the spray nozzle worked pretty good on cleaning jewelry, neither the white or yellow "pocket" worked on glass or stainless steel surfaces and it shouldn't because the pads are not doing anything except pushing the condensed steam (now water)around. Looking at how it is constructed one shouldn't expect anything more. The garment steamer works okay on a wrinkled shirt, I used the purple wand on the bed, couch and curtains and couldn't really tell what it did or didn't do. I used the scrub brush on bathroom grout and am not sure that I can't get the same result with any other brush using the same amount of elbow grease. I have a shark steam mop and really like it but this is going back.

I was so excited after seeing the infomercial on tv. I ordered it and got it within a week. I tried it on the kitchen sink and it couldn't clean the rubber piece on the garbage disposal. Then I moved on to the bathroom. No luck there either. Using scrubbing bubbles on the tub worked much better. I returned it before the 30 day trial period. I had to pay $15.90 to return it. Two weeks later when I called, they say they haven't received it. I'm getting impatient. Maybe it's taking so long because so many people are returning it. I want my credit card credited.

thankyou all for being honest,I've been away sence Nov. 09 got home yesterday Feb 10 saw this on T.V. I thought WOW... checked out my money situation only 150.00 thought only 99.00 to make my life easer ? almost did it. my son walked in just before I did,and said google it ! I did, and found even though this infomecial product not only doesn't do what it claims to do,They want to give you a hard time in returing it.with the hard times that's going on now, every penny couting this company ought to be ashame of it's self. as a mater of fact I thought about getting the mop also, but reconsidering(even though the reviews seem to be good)seening that their's no honesty in this company,A MAN IS ONLY AS GOOD AS HIS WORD IN THIS CASE THE CMOPANY it's only a mater of time. so once again I commend ALL OF YOU FOR TELLING THE TRUTH to another hard working every penny counts mom.I pray that the SHARK people(by the way great name to rip people off)grow a conscience and do what's right, sticking to their word,if not they will be out of business soon and another will arise in it's place.and as for the honest people... united we stand dived we fall.( REMEMBER THIS )

I really appreciate everyone's comments! I, too, was waiting on my tax refund to order this. Couldn't wait to get one. Thanks for letting us all benefit from your experience. You have saved a lot of people much time and money. You can get this product on ebay for much less than the t.v. advertises, and I was planning to get one this week. I'm so glad I saw the reviews. I can make much better use of the money on something else. THANKS AGAIN!

so glad I found these comments! Ive been screwed over before and learned my lesson. I really wanted this to work oh well. I think i would rather save my money.

Anonymous said...

Your usual cleaning regine is much better. This product is not advertised properly as it appears as if quite a bit of steam is produced while you are "mopping". Steam is produced, but not enough to spend over $100 dollars for this product. The handle as well broke while I was trying the product out. NEVER again am I purchasing anything by mail or online....you DO have to pay the shipping to return it and they have my cc#!

Anonymous said...

So glad I found this. A friend had told me so much about the cleaner I could hardly wait to get one. But not now, more opinions are better that one. Will continue cleaning till something better comes along.....

Weird, I used mine for the first time today and thought it worked great. I am so against using toxic chemicals to clean my house so thought this was a great to add to my other methods of cleaning the house.

I was just telling my mother about this and we were going to go get it at the store so we didn't have to wait to get it from the company via "infomercial" and I am glad I found this site. I guess I won't be buying this either if so many of you tried it and it didn't live up to the NON-info-mercial! It has a great concept but if it makes more work for you then it really isn't necessary. If it doesn't do what they say it will do -for get it! Oh, my mother bought a Hann floor steam cleaner on the recommendation from two people at Macy's. The salesman told us he had it and it was rare that it was returned, unlike the shark and other lesser priced model. I think that's a great question to ask - how often is this model returned?!!! thanks, everyone!

The experience I had with Shark steam pocket wsa terrible. I was very excited and when it arrived I tried it on everything, read the directions again and it DID NOT work on,anything. When I called to return it they put me through hell and I could not understand anything they were saying. I inten to contact the attorney general and the BBB. They should not be able to operate a business in that manner. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought one from the store, tried it out in my bathroom shower stall. I can honestly say, I had no problem with it at all. Got lots of steam and went slowly. Found that if I rushed it then it worked like garbage. So far in one evening I only tried two diff. attachments. My only complaint is the small water tank it has. Had to fill the darn thing up 2 times for one shower stall wall. I like not having to use the smelly stuff that chokes me and makes me smell like bleach for two days.
So if it takes me an hour of my time to do the shower area, then thats what I will have to learn to live with. It works for me. Patience is whats needed when cleaning and reaping the benifits in the end. I also learned not from this product alone, that if you want sparkly looking stuff, then either paint it or buy new.

Anonymous said...

I have been considering buying it because although I know chemicals for the most part do clean better I am pregnant and would like something chemical-free. For those who used it, I would be curious to know how dirty was the object they were trying to clean, afterall if you haven't tried cleaning it in a long time, nothing is going to work.

Another infomercial that boasts claims that are "unrealistic"..

When will we all learn.. ??

Infomercials are targeted at our hopes...
and play on our dreams of "awesome" products...

Like all the fitness products... I work out 3-4 times a week and eat quite healthy and will never look like the people that did a 3 minute workout 1 time a week.. :-)

I never buy anything off infomercials, although I have to keep the wife straight..

Thank you so much for posting for all of us..

THE SHARK PORTABLE STEAM POCKET HAS ITS PROS AND CONS. ON ONE HAND YOU GET ALL THESE ATTACHMENTS BUT THEY ALL DONT WORK. I WAS SUPER EXCITED ABOUT GETTING MINE AND WHEN I GOT IT I TRIED IT ON MY GRANITE COUNTERTOPS. IT TOOK FOREVER!! TO GET ONE PART CLEAN BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GO REALLY SLOW IN ORDER FOR IT TO EVEN GET A LITTLE DIRT OFF. AND THEN AFTER ALL THAT WORK IT IS STILL WET!! I THEN ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN THE PANEL RIGHT ABOVE MY STOVE WHICH CAME OUT NICE. ALL I HAD TO DO WAS HOLD THE BUTTON AND LEAVE THE WEDGE ON ONE AREA FOR ABOUT 30 SECS AND THEN MOVE BACK AND FORTH. IT WASNT THAT BAD.
I HAVENT REALLY TRIED THE OTHER ATTACHMENTS BESIDES THE WHITE WEDGE, THE PURPLE SCRUBBING ONE, AND THE YELLO GLASS ONE. AND LET ME TELL YOU, THAT DIDNT REALLY CLEAN IT THAT WELL. I COMPARED WINDEX AND NEWSPAPER TO THE STEAM POCKET AD I PREFER WINDEX. I GUESS IT TAKES A REALLY PATIENT PERSON TO USE THIS SYSTEM. I WILL TRY THE GARMENT STEAMER AND THE PURPLE SANITIZER ATTACHMENT AND GIVE MORE FEEDBACK THEN.
I WOULDNT RECCOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE UNLESS YOU DONT MIND SPENDING THE WHOLE DAY CLEAN ONE SECTION OF YOUR HOUSE.
AND IT SAYS NOTHING ABOUT CLEANING SET IN STAINS!! I TRIED IT ON MY OVEN AND IT REMOVED A LITTLE BIT OF THE MESS BUT IT TOO ALOT OF WORK TO DO THAT. I TRIED SPRAYIN THE SURFACE WIITH THE STEAM FIRST AND THEN USING THE TOOL AND IT WORKED A LITTLE BETTER.
ON A SCALE OF 1-10 I WOULD RATE THE PRODUCT A 4

I've been reading these comments because I thought the shark looked like a good way to avoid using the chemicals. I think I'll stick to Magic Eraser and Dawn in hot water -- works great on my shower stall.

ha! i am glad i came upon this website. i was minutes from ordering one. i have chronic illness and cleaning - especially with chemicals - has become almost impossible for me. i really got excited at the thought of using steam - no harsh chemicals or odors, no rinsing, no mess! oh well, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. i'm sticking to the easy off and gas mask hah

I got the hand held steamer. Worked PERFECTLY on my vinyl floor! I just used the large pad to clean it. I dont have much vinyl in my house. My vinyl looks brand new! It melted all the grime where the cabinets and fridge meet the floor (that grimy little line!).

I also use it to clean the counters and dining room table. I love disinfecting and cleaning at the same time, NO CHEMICALS. (This means I basically I barely have to buy any other cleaning products!!)

Then I used the direct steam attachment. It worked great inside the microwave, just melted all that grease and yuck, sanitized it, and I just wiped it out. No scrubbing, no chemicals.

On to the toilets. I have 3 bathrooms, and a 10 year old boy and a 4 year old girl. I blasted all the nasties out from every crevice in the hinges and around the bottom. Hospital clean!! I just put on a rubber glove and got out a "junk towel" and wiped the mess off super easy. No scrubbing, no chemicals.

I absolutely love how it works. It does a great job! I printed off a 20% off coupon for Bed Bath & Beyond, and purchased the basic $59.99 hand held for $51 after tax. The money I will save on cleaning products alone, as well as the time I save, is definitely worth what I paid!

*CAPTURE* Photography by Sarah said...

The handheld works AMAZING! Saves time, energy (WAY less scrubbing!) Just melts everything down. And you save $ not having to buy cleaning chemicals.

I used it on my kitchen floors (didnt take long and worked great with the large pad), cleaned my microwave with the direct steam attachment, as well as the toilets. Blasted all the nasties and just melted them and sanitized all in one step. I put on a rubber glove and use a throw away towel to wipe up what It blasts out.

All the grout around my sinks and faucets - BLASTED!

Dining room table (kid messes) BLASTED! Sanitized and cleaned with no chemicals and less time and energy.

YES it works. I bought the basic hand held package (less attachments). BB&B has it for $59.99 and I printed off their 20% off coupon and paid $51 after tax.

Even if this one breaks, I will buy another one. It is already worth what I paid for it after one cleaning!

Thank you all for your posts. I was just about to go out the door to buy one, then I decided to read some reviews. It looks about 90% of these reviews have given the Shark Portable Steamer a "nay"...and I say "yay!" to these reviews!
Thank you for helping me keep my $99 in my pocket!

I actually have both the steam pocket mop and just purchased the portable steamer. I absolutely love the mop! So far I really like the portable steamer as well. I haven't used all the attachments but I feel that it does a good job. I am a mom so I wanted to find a product that doesn't use harsh chemicals. I am a cleaning freak so my house is never super dirty...so these two steamers work well for me.

I have been using the steam pocket on my house cleaning jobs and am pleased overall. It is great in shower stalls esp. when caked on soap is, it just melts it away. Less effective on bathtub rings however. It does leave a sanitized feeling like its cleaner than chemicals and of course its safer than continually breathing chems. I like how it cleans stainless steel appliances, and plastic surfaces, too. I'm definately glad I bought it.

Double Weird (after reading all these comments), I have used this product numerous times and it is so much better than using chemicals. The mattress portion I thought killed the bed bugs, left the mattress smelling clean and refreshed (but it certainly didn't refurbish the mattress nor did it turn my used mattress into a brand new one), it mearly gave me a method of steaming it for cleanliness (which I did not have before), it cleaned the grease off of my stove top and venting shield (sorry, but I did not wait until the grease was so thick that only gasoline would clean it), it cleaned all my counter tops, refrigerator, stove and both bathtubs, and yes even the shower glass doors were spotless (again, I didn't wait until they were so soapy you needed a jack hammer). The steam cleaner has done what it says it will do (and no, I do not work at or am employed by Shark), and it will not clean what Shark says not to clean or use hot steam on (you must use common sense ladies). I have always kept my stuff clean and now with the use of this cleaner, I can clean the same areas in a fraction of the time! No kidding!!!

Anonymous said...

My husband warned me that this couldn't possibly work like it does on TV. Is he ever right! I am so disappointed, this steam cleaner is way below any expectation that I had. It barely got warm. It did absolutely nothing, I mean nothing at all. I purchased distilled water for it and couldn't wait to try it on the shower. It seemed like it was blowing air...hardly warm...perhaps I have a malfunctioning unit because how could the Shark Company stay in business with this quality of merchandise? I intend to take it back to the store. I bought it at Costco who has a wonderful return policy. It was $78.00. Better to use elbow grease I guess.

Unknown said...

I just bought this unit and am now inclined to clean what ever. I cleaned my micro fibre couch, looks new! De-wrinkled a few shirts and cleaned my bathroom with as many attachments as I could use for a 1st try. I think it was a good purchase and am pleased with my results. As stated b4 the only problem I have is the I had to refill quite a few times to get the results I wanted. Patience is the key I think.

I would like to take !!!!!THANK YOU!!!! for all the "REAL" reviews about the Shark Steam Pocket. I just finished watching the informercial for the product, and they almost had me. I sat and watched it for about an hour trying to make myself believe that this product could actually work. I really appreciate it. Im sorry for you guys disappointment in the product. I guess is back to the old school way. Lil chemical and some elbow grease. Thank you

I just saw the infomercial for the first time, so wanted to see the reviews. Don't think that every infomercials are scams, because "magic bullet" is simply best. Can't wait to try my steamer.

Folks, if its for sale on TV, its hyped way over the top and will not deliver. ALWAY's gooogle reviews first thing and you will find out its a rip off everytime. I do it on everything I see or think about buying and it saves my butt everytime. I have never bought one of these as seen on tv products and recieved anything worth using they are always cheap plastic junk! This kind of crap should be outlawed.

Anonymous said...

I don't have the pocket steamer, but I have the bigger model with all the attachments and it rocks! I use it to clean the kitchen counters, stovetop and it is especially handy for cleaning my parrot's cage. Melts the crap right off, and is sanitary for the pet. I've had nothing but good luck with that model.

Hi I purchased the Shark Steam Pocket and found that it did help out in the shower. There was stubborn scum that I could not get out and after working very slowly on the tub it has come out. The ring around the tub did not. Seems like it did a good job on the shower door. It does not work on mirrors- leaves streaks. And I do not believe it sanitizes. I took out my purple light and shined it on the areas I have done and I can tell you I still saw spots that were not clean. So I would say don’t give yourself false hope that it is sanitizing. I did use it on my cupboards and they do look cleaner. I am undecided whether I will keep this product or not. I may just for the tub.

After reading all of these reviews, I think it depends on people's expectations and their own cleaning habits. Many people expect instant results as that is the perception the info-commerical gives. It seems as though much more patience is needed to clean the grime if you are only cleaning once every decade. It sounds as though if you keep you place pretty clean, the steamer does a good job in maintaning a clean household. It also seems like there may be product line issues. Some sound like duds, which can be expected. This is unfortunate for the people that bought an ill-working steamer. I support any products that promote a friendlier, less hazardous, way of cleaning and the steamer sounds like it would save you money in the long run if you use it for its intended purposes. There are more expensive steam cleaners that go up into the thousands that I am sure work a lot better, but it goes down to what you are willing to pay.

Just purchased Love it. I am just wondering just how dirty some people's houses are that they are not having success with their machine. The job it does like the vinyl around your windows is just amazing. The tracks in your windows come out fantastic. The stuff that comes out of your hinges can't say enough. If you are trying to blast off years and years of dirt and grime, I can see where you have trouble

I appreciated all of the excellent reviews! I almost got caught up by the persuasive commercials and was ready to run out and buy one. Too many weak reviews on this and other websites don't speak well for this product. I feel like I may have dodged a bullet. Thank goodness for the experience and review of others.

Thanks for your comments I was going to buy one but I thought I better research it first. I went on the review site and wow I was surprised of all the bad reveiws. I really appreciate your comments. When you see it on TV it looks great but once you hear it from real individuals, not paid it is a different story. Thanks you so much. May God bless you for being so honest and I hope your issues will get resolved.

I'm sad that the darn thing isn't worth a dime. I, too, thought this would clean grease and grime and hard water stains. So much for easy. I'll stick to 'elbow grease' way of cleaning now. Thanks all for your honest input.

I bought the shark steam pocket on ebay for 17 dollars and 15 for shipping so about 32 all togeher. Right after I bid I remembered to check reviews, I checked this website and saw how a majority of them said it sucks. So I was all upset cause I was stuck with it now. Within the hour of me getting it I used it and I actually like it! It's not as good as the infomercial but it's worth 30 dollars. I used it on my mirrors and it worked leaving a lil steaks at the top. I used it on cabinets, walls, and doors and it got out whatever smudges or whatever was on them. It didn't get the grease out of the oven door though. I also used it on my chinchilla cage, the previous owner didn't wash it too well and there was urine like caked onto the bottom floor of it. With alot of steam to heat it up and a screwdriver I got it off. I also used it to get wrinkles out of my shirt and it worked well. I like the steam cleaner most because it's just steam and there's no harmful chemicals. If you're wanting it.. go to Ebay. A LOT cheaper!

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD SOMEONE NOT TRY SOMETHING JUST BECAUSE OF SOMETHING BAD SOMEONE ELSE SAYS ABOUT IT. GIVE IT A TRY AND SEE FOR YOURSELF, ITS SOLD IN SEVERAL LOCAL STORES NOW. I WOULD NOT BE WITHOUT MINE, I USE IT FOR EVERYTHING..

If you go to bbb.org and put in their customer service number you will find that this company has an "F" rating! That was enough for me to steer clear - in addition to all of the bad reviews. I will look elsewhere for a steam mop though, because I am tired of using chemicals!

I used the Steam Pocket Portable Steam for the first time today and I loved it! I thought it did a great job on my stainless appliances, My glass doors, the bathroom floors, countertops, and for dusting. I have really bad allergies, esp to dust and I noticed that I wasn't sneezing and all watery after cleaning like I usually am. My house is never really dirty, so I had no problems. Don't get me wrong though, it was still hard work to clean and my arm hurts a bit from holding the tank, but I'm keeping it. It's so nice not to have to use chemicals around the dogs, kids, and myself! It you are looking for something to clean your house very easily, hire a housekeeping service!! If you are looking to get rid of the toxic chemicals in your house, then this is a great alternative.

I'm satisfied with my Shark floor sanitizer but I wish I had visited this site before purchasing the portable steam pocket. I tried it on several surfaces yesterday (stainless steel kitchen appliances, bathroom mirrors & countertops, granite countertops, etc.) -- it left streaks on everything, it was cumbersome and the hose kept falling off. Infomercial is very deceiving. It's all piled in a box now ready to be returned to where bought it.

bought it yesterday- used it today- going back tomorrow. enough said. wait, on second thought, i have to say something..... it did not do well on shower glass, grout, or tiles. we could not even get the wand off to change attachment. when i tried to seach on Sharks' we page for product help and i entered the product/model number as asked it came back saying no such model number. this is the number all over the box and on the bottom of the product. ok, now enough said.

THANKS FOR THIS WEBSITE!!!
NICE TO BE ABLE TO FIND AN HONEST PLACE FOR UNBIASED REVIEWS.

Well - I just purchased the portable steam pocket yesterday - & then I decided to read some reviews on this product. I am so happy - I did & I am returning this item tomorrow. I did not purchase on line - so I will not have any trouble getting a refund.
Thanks to all who wrote the reviews - it leaves us believers to never believe the infocomercials again. If it sounds too good to be true - It's not !!!!

I will say this for the "nay sayers". I have had the steam mop for over a year. First time I used it, it proved it's worth. I have recently purchased a home and it worked wonderfully on the vinyl floor, & hardwood. I was so impressed my husband and I purchased the hand held steamer and was equally as impressed. This past weekend I cleaned 30 years worth of grime off my grandfathers bathroom (ceiling to floor all the way around all surfaces). I have read all the reviews posted and tend to agree with some you just have to have patience. It's not a miracle there is still some work that is involved. I LOVE LOVE LOVE both products. Keeps chemicals out of my house. I don't worry about company letting their kids crawl on my kitchen floor (as kids do inevitably but there hands in mouth) because I know it's clean and sanitized.

I purchased the Shark Portable Steam Pocket on June 1st 2010 from Canadian Tire. We tried it today on:
Our counter top - result - nothing! Dried jam stayed on (just spread around and sticky)
Our oven - result - nothing. No cleaning action just a wet pool.
Our fridge - result - no discernable cleaning.
Our shower glass doors - result - streaks and did not remove any soap. Rest of shower no noticeable cleaning.

Toilet - result - nothing.

It is obvious that this is just another TV gimic and it will be returned to the store on Monday.

Wow, I am so glad I found these reviews. I have been wanting this product since I first saw the infomercial last fall. I was searching for the best price and decided to look at reviews first. Now I am bummed at the thought of super easy cleaning being a bust! Oh well, if it's too good to be true.....

Anonymous said...

For those of you who are expecting to get their money back: That's how all of these infomericals work. They drag out the process as long as they can,("losing" info, sending it back to you, not answering your calls and emails)because they want the guarantee period to end so they don't have to give your money back. If their product is crap and everyone is sending it back, they aren't making money.

I love mine! The yellow pad cleans my bathroom mirrors and stainless appliances like no other product I've tried. Its great for light-medium weekly cleaning, but you still need to use conventional methods on occasion. Worth the price alone for the short work in made of cleaning all my window screens. Normally this is a 3 hour job in the late spring...done in 30 mins!! Does not work on filthy jobs as demonstrated on the infomercial, not effective on stained grout. But if you want to breeze through a weekly cleaning, this is your answer. It all about what you are looking for in a cleaning product.

Thanks a bunch to all who commented. Your input certainly made a difference in changing my decision to buy the portable pocket steamer. Now, I think I will return to the old fashioned way to cleaning my house.

Almost bought last nite at KMart for $79.95. Wondered if was too cumbersome to use. Thought I'd first check out reviews. Want to use for windows, bathroom mirrors and oversized sliding glass deck door, (and to steam wrinkles from drapes and clothes). Would it work for these? I'm older and can't scub like I used to. Please respond. TIP for those who want to clean shower doors - just use WHITE VINEGAR mix with water (70/30) or (80/20). White Vinegar cleans everything related to hard water. Better than CLR. Cleans coffee pots to encrusted faucet aeroraters and shower heads (soak these). Also fresh mouth rinse and when brush, cleans plaque off teeth.

Love the concept (no chemicals), but HATE this unit (Portable Steam Pocket System - Model:SC650)... Bought ours yesterday for $99 at Bed Bath & Beyond with a $20 coupon (net $79 plus tax). Returning it today.

Was happy with the Pocket Steam Mop and thought Portable Steam Pocket System (SC650) would be a usefull addition... WRONG!!!!

Unit failed miserably in both kitchen and bath (both are routinely and regulary maintained so these were not especially difficult trials).

Unit does not get anywhere near hot enough to provide "99% Sanitization in One Step" as stated on box. I could/did easily hold my hand directly in the steam path without burns (my sink tap water is hotter).

As of today (7/25/2010) if you go to www.sharkclean.com you will find they do not even list the model SC650 (or any hand held portable steam cleaners) under their "Products". It is not listed as a product nor are there any FAQs or Manuals posted. If you search long/hard enough you will find a similar SC630W manual (SC630W_IB_En_090803_READER.pdf), but nothing under the SC650 that mine is clearly marked as.

Product does not work as promised/expected and does not appear to be a supported product by the manufacturer.

I just bought this today at Canadian Tire after watching the infomercial for like the 5th time. I used mine on my couch and chair, drapes, and my mattress to sanitize and freshen.....IT WORKS AMAZING!!!! Yes, it does take some time and effort, but so does cleaning with anything else, it is not a magic machine that does all the work for you, you just don't need to use the awful chemicals to get the job done. I also used it on my banister railings which haven't been cleaned in years because I hate scrubbing them and it's extremely time consuming, but the portable steam pocket just whisked it away.
So, put simply, it is a good product, that DOES work, but you have to remember it's not magic as I said before, you still need to put some muscle into it!

I have the Shark Pocket mop and love it. Just ordered the portable. I agree that if you do not clean regularly this will not work for you. Mine should be delivered in a week. For people who clean daily/twice weekly and clean thier counters and such every day ( i do this 3 and four times a day) these products will work wonders. It is all about patience and dilligence. You cant be a slob and let something spill and cake and dry and expect steam to vanquish it in 10 seconds. We shall see if it works. The pocket mop is my hero

Well...after reading all of the comments, it seems like some people love their steam product and some people hate it. I think it is a matter of trying it out and seeing for yourself how well it does/doesn't work. So if you think there is a possibility that you may return it...why not buy it from a store, rather than online. Much easier and a lot less hassle, plus no shipping charges. This is a product that I have been thinking about for several months. I have 2 of my own children as well as up to 4 foster children at any given time...not to forget to mention the 2 dogs and 1 cat. I need my house kept sanitized always and it's hard to keep up with. I am still going to purchase this product and see for myself how it works...then I will write another review.

I posted a comment a couple of days ago stating that i was going to buy the Steam Pocket from a local store to see what I thought of it. Works great on my micro fiber couch, cupboards, as well as tub! So...for the skeptics out there...don't buy online or phone...buy local and try it for yourself! Do not fall into the category of "don't believe everything you read"....try it! I've never been happier, and now am considering getting the mop too!

The Shark Portable Steam Pocket System is a great idea, but the product really doesn't work as well as the infomercials lead you to believe. Too many attachments. Not for really tough set-in grease stains, I'll say that. I stood and let the machine do the work, but after probably 3 min. of steam pulverizing the area, and scrubbing with yet another attachment, the stain remains.

I used it to clean some mirrors, with a different attachment and had to be careful not to make too many streaks.

Probably a good sanitizing tool, but im not a biologist to prove that.

It did take out some old gum that was imbedded into my kids bedroom rug though, that was cool.

I like a room to smell like I cleaned it too.

This is my take on the subject. Try it for yourself, but be careful not to get tangled in the power cord or the hose ATTACHMENT.

while sitting in the hospital room with my one year old, who was very sick with an unidentified bacterial infection, i saw the infomercial for this product. we had spent 2 months prior to this visit with a very sick baby, diarrhea, fevers, rashes, and even seizures....after the doctors could not identify the cause if his illness, i did not hesitate one bit to purchase this product.

the day before our son was released from the hospital, i spent the entire day cleaning and sanitizing EVERY surface in our house...carpets, matresses, counters, floors...you name it, it got cleaned.

i was VERY impressed with how this product worked. i keep a very tidy house, but clearly there was some "sanitizing" that needed to be done.

i did a trial in my bathroom with a black light prior to using the product in there. i was DISGUSTED to see the amount of urine left behind from my older 2 boys. although the toilet "looked" clean to the naked eye, there was much to talk about after taking the black light in there. after using a "bathroom cleaner" and a rag, i re checked the toilet area with the black light, there was still about 50% of the urine on the toilet as there was the first time i looked....GROSS!!!!!

i then took the shark portable mop in there and went to work....the black light test was proof positive that this product works. 99% of all urine and other matter was gone from the toilet. this alone, sold me on the product.

i use it for EVERYTHING now and even love how well it works to get odors out of clothing, and even stinky shoes.

i am happy to announce that our son has not gotten sick since i bought this...and i pull it out every time someone in our house so much as wipes a runny nose. It has helped stop the spread of germs that would before infect us all with the same cold.

A total piece of Sh+£. What they show on TV is not 100% real. I have tried it on moldy curtains, shower corners, aluminium windows and taps - no luck with anything. A total waste of money. Even HOT water will not remove stains alone - chemicals are also needed to remove dirt with ease. Most of these products should be demonstrated in shops and homes - the reason they not doing it is because they know too well it won't sell. DONT BUY!!

Anonymous said...

I've had mine for a month or so now, and it works pretty good. I don't *LOVE* it, but I do like it and will continue to use it. I just did all the toe-kicks in my kitchen in about 2 minutes, a job which would have taken much longer before. Also does a great job on the kitchen cabinets and the hardwood floor (I use the big wedge for that.)

I have pets so there's lots of fur around, and yes, it does sort of just push the hair around, but basically what I do is clean using the steamer which removes actual dirt and grime, then take a dry cloth and wipe over what I've just cleaned to pick up the dog hair etc.

It's not a miracle machine in any sense, but if you have realistic expectations and don't want to use chemicals you may like it. I know I do.

I really wanted one to steam clean our furniture that the cats get on. We have a feral cat that on occasion will pee/poop on a chair. I have clean that one chair with all sorts of special sprays that work for the smell, but I wanted to make sure it was clean. Any experience with this item on cloth furniture and animals?

I bought the pocket steamer today for one reason, and one reason only: to kill bed bugs. It did that. YAY. Luckily I caught things soon enough before it could've been REALLY bad. But when I aimed the steamer nozzle directly at them..the eggs LITERALLY MELTED and the larger ones stopped dead in their tracks. I have yet to try it on anything else yet but if you're looking for a non-chemical way to kill those things, use this!

Recommend buying at walmart. It's 1/3 the price and returning it (if desired) is painless.

To Anonymous (Oct. 31 @ 8 pm) whose cat has soiled his/her chair: I have the same problem with my cat. I found this on the Humane Society's website: "Avoid using steam cleaners to clean urine odors from carpet or upholstery. The heat will permanently set the stain and the odor by bonding the protein into any man-made fibers." So I don't think I will buy a Shark to clean my couch.

I purchased my pocket steamer from Wal-Mart online. I purchased it because I had already spent thousands of dollars on pest control for bed bugs, none of it seemed to be effective and this is after I threw all the bedding and beds out of my home. Each time pest control came they were back a month later. All they did was steam and spray. Heck, I can steam. Plus, the eggs hatch every two weeks. So, I purchased the pocket steamer and I love it! I am hopeful that this will keep the beg bugs away. It's light, easy to use and as long as I continue to steam the baseboards every cowpoke of weeks, I should be fine.

I got one a hard surface cleaner for a Christmas present last week. I wasn't thrilled with it when I used it the first time. I had to go very slow and it just wasn't all that 'impressive'. I have to take that opinion back the more I use it. I realized that I had so much dirt, grime and build up to get through before it was truly clean. I have since been able to breeze through cleaning the floor. I have 5 kids, a dog and a cat. This is the first time that I can remember that I really felt that my floors are clean. I have also used this to clean my walls. I can't clean all the way to the ceiling, but I can get "handprint" height. It was so much easier than using a bucket and wash cloth. I think if those of you that didn't feel good about it after the first time keep using it, you will notice how well it really does work. The infomercial shows new stains, not what is really in our homes. I was amazed at how well my hardwood floors look. It wasn't easy. I have washed out the pads more times than I can count, but they are 100 years old- That's a lot of dirt to get out!

Heidi said...

I had been waiting to receive my Shark Pocket Steam Cleaner for over a year and finally got one for Christmas; bummer and bubble bursted! I excitedly opened the box and went to work on my shower, which is always clean, but has some patches of soap scum in hard to scrub places. Unfortunately, the steamer didn't remotely begin to take off the scum. Went to the ceremic tile grout and got to work; not even a a spec of dirt came clean. As my husband says, elbow grease is the best! I was and am so very disappointed that my cleaning tasks were not made easier. I am an obsessive/compulsive cleaner and am always looking for easier ways to get the tasks done. Roomba did that for me, so I thought the Pocket Steamer would too. NOT!
I called Target to return the used product and they would not take it back. So, I called Euro-Pro to tell them of my dissatisfaction and they really could care less. The phone call was to somewhere outside of the United States, had an extremely poor connection and when we could understand each other, they were non-responsive; they told me that I had to return it to Target. I proceeded to call them a second time to talk with another customer service agent and had a worse connection and had the same non-caring response. After calming down for a few minutes, I called Target again and they directed me to another department at headquarters and they gave me the go-ahead to return the undesirable product.
Unless you just want a sanitizer and not a cleaner, don't waste your money. Spend the $100 on a Roomba (for you floors) and get the old "stand-by" vinegar for your cleaning duties!

Lucky buy of a lifetime...

I just happened to go into my local Goodwill and low and behold there was a Shark Portable Steam Pocket. I couldn't believe the price marked on it.. $9.99.. Yes folk you read that right $9.99. I took the box to the couch area, sat down and started taking the box apart to see if everything was there.. Sure enough it had everything and the instruction booklet.. I asked I could turn it on there and try, but they said I had to take it home to do that, but there was a 7 day day money back return policy.. Sure enough the damn thing works great.. Don't know why people have said it doesn't make enough steam. Mine works great.. The only 2 problems I found is that my arm tend to get tired from holding it and the cotton cleaning pad tends to get very and just spread whatever on it around. Other then that, I'd say i got a great deal.

Well am I glad I read this page. I have been anxious to purchase the "easy hygenic cleaning implement" as i have arthrites and wanting something easy to keep our house clean - as I like it. I have just save over $200 for something i would not be able to use, and it is not as good as they portray on TV. I am a sucker for advertising - but will have to stop and think from now on.

I was going to but a Shark Steam Portable Pocket through Guthy-Reinker here in Australia but after reading these reviews, I will be looking for something else.Certainly will not being buying online. The TV ads always makes the job look easy, been caught once before not going to get caught again!!

Probably the most useless invention since laminate flooring! They go well together just as long as you have no daylight or lamplight in your house! Streaks, misty places, bits of dust etc.all over the place.Have to get down upon my hands and knees with a soft cloth so that the floor does not look like it just held a cattle auction!! May work for some people, but not for me.

I purchased my portable steam pocket over a year ago and it works fine. I wouldn't suggest using it on the oven but it cleans the refrigerator really well. Mirrors are perfect with no streaks and it takes crayon off of any surface. I love it and I use it every week to get that clean feeling. A little advice, it can get very hot so you may want to keep your hands away from the steam.

Yep I'm glad i've read all the comments first aswell! I was just about to purchase one after watching the commercial. Thanks people I'll save my pennies and go back to scrubbing. Helen

Bought a Shark Steam Pocket at Sam's Club. It worked fairly well 2 or 3 times, then started taking longer and longer to heat up and start producing steam. Contacted the company through their website - no response. Called their contact number and had the same offshore, poor-English response reported by others (I didn't stay on the line long enough to find out whether they also had the bad attitude). Packed it up to send it in for warranty service and went back to the manual for return directions - you have to send EVERYTHING back (attachments and all) + $9.95 for return S&H. Postage to ship everything (vs. just the steam generator) was going to cost $20+. Took it back to Sam's and they gave us a full refund even though we had had it for 6 months and they didn't carry the unit anymore. Kudos to Sam's Club, raspberries to Shark/Euro-Pro.

My husband bought me a steam pocket for Christmas because i wanted one so bad & he found it on sale at Wal-mart for 75.00 I really wish I would have known someone who had one before I asked for this, this has to be the worst product I have ever had for the price, the only thing it really cleans correctly is mirrors & I still have to go back over them it with a towel.

I used mine on my cupboards and tiled steps and LOVE it. Just use a velcro strap to keep the button pushed in and you have continuous steam. I purchased mine in K-Mart for $74.99. I was pleasantly surprised with this product.

Oh Dear My, just had to write.. So excited to get mine, waited all day it came tonight 10/4/11 at7.00 pm, right away tried the handheld steamer on oven door with no results and I do not have baked on grease just some light splashing as I have a new oven, did not make any difference on glass oven door just made it wet, but it did help some on oven bottom, but not the glass door..very sad will try shower tomorrow. Steam mop my husband likes, so I guess he can use it!!! I may just stick with my swiffer even though I am trying to cut back on the cost of buying their products and getting chemicals out the house. Also does not clean grout like I wanted...let me try tomorrow and I will update. just a bit disappointed, a bit like waiting for Christmas and it never comes....sorry Shark

I love my hand held steamer. I think it does a great job. I don't think it would work great on a real nasty dirty house but it works great for weekly cleaning and I would recommend it!

Wow, I'm surprised to see so many comment from people who don't like the Shark Steam Pocket!! I have just been telling everyone at work how WONDERFUL it is!!!! I used it to clean my ranchsliders and windows downstairs on the weekend and it is years since I've cleaned them - I was surprised at how quickly and easily it got rid of all the dirt of them, the glass and aluminium joinery - so much quicker and cleaner then with a bucket of soapy water! All I do is a quick wipe down afterwards. I use it to de-wrinkle my clothes every day for work, I hate ironing and this is so easy and it doesn't leave your clothes wet like other steamers. Also cleaned my bathroom/shower/fridge/benches/rangehood, you name it, I attacked it and was very pleased with the result!!

I'm from new zealand and had purchased the shark steam pocket cleaner I thought after the add they were making out it cleans everything not on my shower or anything that has some real dirt! I wounder why on the commercial every thing all ready looked pretty clean. I got a call on wht I did not like it I said It was usless in my bathroom. Traditional elbow grease is the way to go!

Anonymous said...

Well I just try the Sharp Portable Steam Pocket gaget. It was absolutly usless, we try it on nunerous surfaces and it hardly made a dent in the dirty surfaces, This product dose not live up it expectaction as shown on the TV informercial. Given the price tag of nearly $300 ( New Zealand ), I would expect better results from this item. As my friend put it" better to spent the $300 on a couple of workers and get them to clean your home for a whole day.
I will never buy a TV product again without first seeing it in action in real life.

I just bought this product. I can see everyone's comments ringing true with the bulky tank/ button. However it did a wonderful job. I did have to use a second cloth to clean up the lint and dust that clumped together, but its the same thing with wipes. All in all I am keeping the product. It did what it was meant to do. Yea my arm is sore, but I don't have to worry about chemicals :)

We used the shark portable cleaner for a couple of tanks of water and the hose started to leak steam. Of course it burned my hand. We returned it to Kohls thinking we had just gotten a defective unit and planned on returning it for a different unit. Since the other two units remaining on the shelf had already been opened, we opted for a refund. Went online to speak with the manufacturer and relayed the experience. All the C/S rep could say was "oh dear, are you okay? We have not had any issues with the units." Too bad, I guess we will have to look for a better quality unit.

hi there, i, like many others on here, was considering buying one of these steam cleaners and am now glad i didn't. for all the people who purchased or considered purchasing one of these so they could clean without chemicals just wanted to let you know that there are many sites that list recipes for homemade 'green' cleaners, many of which are safe to use during pregnancy, are just as good as commercial chemical cleaners, dont need a machine to be sucking up power and are generally a lot cheaper to make than it would be buy the commercial chemicals to do the same job as well as all that when you are cleaning with product you can eat (such as vinegar and bi-carb soda) you can sleep easy knowing your family are not breathing in vapours from harmful chemicals and its a lot better for our enviroment too. quite a lot of benefits for a simple change with little to no upfront cost. HAPPY CLEANING!!!

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Just watched the TV commercial and it looked fantastic. I was all set to purchase one. Thank goodness for the internet, thank you everyone for your honesty. Why can't companies just make products that work perfectly first time every time?

I am a self-employed housecleaner & I just finished watching the ad for the shark steam pocket cleaner. I thought to myself, "What a gimmick that is!

That steam cleaner didn't remove anything as the surfaces had no dirt on them to begin with, only sprinkled on powdery dirt & a little bit of fake grime to suck anyone into buying one of these cheap & nasty time-wasters".

I also noticed at the conclusion of the ad that it was a "paid presentation", so those 3 women & the guy demonstrating it were paid to say that the cleaner miraculoulsy cleaned & sanitised their kitchen, bathroom, toilet etc.

I'd feel terrible if I was asked to participate in an ad like that, telling others a load of bulls**t.

I have a really good steam cleaner that I purchased off ebay a few weeks ago & I'm thrilled to bits with it! It does everything that is advertised on the box & is of much better quality than the thing I just watched. The tank holds @ a litre & a half of water which is at least an hours' worth of continual steaming. This in comparison to the Portable Steam Pocket is far better. Of course, if all else fails, I can always depend on good 'ol white vinegar & eucalyptus oil. They always work for me!!!

Hi all,
I know there are alot of bad reviews on this product but i actually have some good feedback.
I live in New Zealand and i bought the shark steam pocket from my local hardware store, i own a cleaning business and thought this would be a great asset to my company, i first tried it out on my own household, a few of the attachments are a complete waste of time, but a few are excellent.
In New Zealand we have trouble with flies, the nasty buggers land on the ceilings and walls and leave their poop behind, i use the white pad on the long wand for the architraves and skirting boards and it lifts the "poop" right off, you can be there for hours scrubbing ceilings otherwise but the heat works great, another thing i use this machine for is taking off old wall paper, it works great with out any attachments and a scraper, i find the wedge extremly heavy and tiring but okay on the walls for greasy finger prints left by children, the steam bottle nozzle is good for the little gaps you cant get into in your oven, e.g around the door and seals.. you do still have to wipe it after but atleast its not an area left undone, the duster pad is good for initiall, lifting the dust but again you still have to wipe after it.
All in all this is not a product i will return as it does what i needed it to do personally, but before first buying think of what you actually need it for.. if you clean the glass etc..without this machine now do you need it for that? i say try before you buy and if you dont pull it out atleast once a week your Wasting your time and money :)
HOPE THIS HELPS
