As Seen On TV Shark Steam Pocket Mop Review

Shark Steam Pocket mop s3501 is the latest and greatest steam mop to be released by the As Seen On TV group. Just like the original shark steam mop, it uses the cleaning power of steam to get trap dirt and other messes from just about any surface onto the micro fiber pad. It still removes chemical residues that can be left on the color from chemical cleaners. The obvious improvement of the Shark Steam Pocket Mop is that the mop head is dual sided allowing you to clean a much larger surface area with out having to change pads. The cleaning head is also much larger in size making it that much easier to clean large areas. In fact the Shark Steam Pocket mop can clean up to 2,000 square feet of floor with out having to refill the water reserve which can hold up to two pints of h2O which is an upgrade from the old model. To give you a comparison; it takes about 4 gallons of water to clean that same area with a traditional mop. The people at Shark have listened to their customers and have included a much longer power cord witch actually reaches up to 30 feet, giving you the freedom to steam clean without having to stop and find another place to plug in the steam mop. The Shark Pocket Mop also has a very handy swivel steering head which makes it super easy to maneuver under tables, chairs, and other furniture. We also like that that the as seen on tv device comes with multiple attachments which are designed for specific cleaning. The Steam Pocket Mop comes with a steam duster pad, 1 rectangular pad, 1 XL rectangular pad, and one triangular pad. We really like that Shark added the triangular attachment to easily get into corners and other small hard to reach places.

On the down side, the Shark Steam Pocket Mop is more expensive than it’s predecessor. At the time this was written the Pocket Mop is $119.00 dollars compared to $99 dollars of the older model. We really like the improvements that have been made but feel like the price might be a little high for most people. Shark does have a money back guarantee so that takes some of the risk out of it but beware that you will probably still have to pay the shipping charges which can add up quickly. Others complained that the Shark Steam Pocket Mop took to long for the steam to generate and did not remove scuffmarks like the commercial showed. If you are interested we have a review of the older Shark Steam Mop as well

UPDATE: For those users with Pergo laminate floors check out this readers response on the Shark Steam Mop.

I purchased the Shark Steam Pocket Mop recently and absolutely love it. I actually purchased the original Shark steam mop first and the very same day I came home and saw the ad for the new Shark Steam Pocket Mop. I went ahead and tried the original steam mop to see if I'd like it...and I did. I agree with the other reviews in regards to the small water tank, flimsy handle and short extension cord on the original steam mop but I thought it cleaned wonderfully. I use hairspray in my bathroom every morning and after a while it builds up on the floor. I have vinyl floors and have used the Swiffer Wetjet for several years. I could never get the hairspray buildup off with the wetjet. The steam mop took it off in just a few passes. I also have a tight spot next to my stove that had some grease buildup from when I fry foods. The wetjet never removed the grease no matter how much cleaner I used. The steam mop removed all of the grease in no time. Even my husband was impressed and believe me it takes a lot to impress him!!! I decided to return the original steam mop because I read the new pocket mop has a swivel head, two different heads (one triangle and one rectangle), a larger water tank, longer extension cord and more mop clothes. The pocket mop also allows you to flip the head over from one side to the other giving you twice the cleaning space compared to the original mop pads. The pocket mop is a little more expensive but I think it's worth it. The swivel head really works well around the toilet and in tight places. The handle on the Shark Steam Pocket Mop seems to be sturdier than the original mop. The larger water tank is really nice. With the original mop I had to refill 2 or 3 times to do my kitchen and bathroom. With the pocket mop, I finished both with one tank. Some of the reviews talked about it leaving water everywhere...I never had that problem. I suppose if you continuously pumped it, it would leave water. I haven't had any troubles with getting it to steam either. When I have a tougher area, I just pump it a few extra times to get the steam really coming out, let it sit on the area for a few seconds and then just mop it up as usual. I think they've made some great improvements on the new Shark Steam Pocket Mop and would definitely recommend it over the original steam mop.

I just bought it and used it on both my hardwood foyer and my linoleum kitchen floors. It DOESN'T steam up in 30 seconds, more like 2-3 minutes, and once it has, you need to push it back and forth a bit to make sure the cloth steams all over, not just where it initially comes out. I previously had been using my tried and true enviro-steamer, but after 9 years and countless uses, it was time to put it out to pasture. I love the flat, pivoting head and really can't even see why I would need the triangular pads, although that was one of the main reasons I bought it. You do need to let it sit and steam on some harder spots, and maybe go back and forth a bit, but it does do a good job. It only steams when you push it (pushing the handle down) so you don't have to worry about it just sitting on your floor and ruining it because of the steam (like I worried with the Enviro-Steamer). The water tank lasted FOREVER, and though I wondered if I was getting enough steaming, the dirt on my pads sure did show it was picking stuff up! I didn't realize my floors were so dirty! Over all, I am pleased with it and would recommend it.

You didn't mention the carpet glider attachment that promises to freshen and deoderize carpets. I would like to know how well that performs.

Wow, You're right, I had actually kind of forgot all about the carpet attachment for the Shark Pocket Mop. I should get a chance to test it out this weekend and write up a review of it. Please stay tuned... :)

I'm thrilled with my new Shark Steam Pocket Mop. My parents have the older version but this updated model has better features and the extended cord is fantastic. However, can someone please explain to me what the purple "steam duster pad" can be used for? I have tile floors and have used the regular pads for cleaning but was hoping that the "duster pad" would allow for easier cleaning of my wood blinds. If you have found other uses, please forward your ideas. Thank you!

This steam mop not only scratched my hardwood floors, it left a film over them. I DO NOT recommend them ... I'm packing mine up and shipping it back - and I'm annoyed that I have pay for the shipping = both from them and back to them. I would file a claim with them for the damage done but I know it's a waste of time.

Anonymous said...

dwdwilliams0...the new pocket mop doesn't hold two pints of water...a little less than 16 oz...in fact, the booklet tells you it holds only 15 oz, but I fill it to the top (don't overfill) and can almost do 1500 sq ft of tile...I MAY have been able to do all of it, but my parrot makes a pretty good sticky mess in her room, so I spend more time and steam in there...BUT it takes off sticky banana and 'Perfect Food' juice! If you go to BB & B and use the 20% off coupon it makes it a really good deal! Also, they have the BEST return policy of any local store! I returned my Scooba (washing robot) for the pocket steam mop because with Scooba you have to use some kind of 'chemical' to get the floors clean and it takes much more before and after time to use it, plus I did the whole house in the time it takes Scooba to do a couple rooms!
I've also used the carpet slider on the throw rugs and it did a great job! One warning about washing the pads: either hand wash (or machine hand wash/gentle) with LIQUID soap, not powder! I saw that in the booklet under 'troubleshooting'.

Season said...

Can you tell me out of all the steam mops you have tested ... which one you works the best?

Anonymous said...

Amy, how in the world did it scratch your floors? Isn't there a white pad on the part that you push across the floor...just curious.

Anonymous said...

Amy, how could it leave a film? It only uses water. Did you add something else to the tank?

Anonymous said...

I was wondering about the entry that said it scratched the floor. Have thought of purchasing one of these but would probably by it in the store, even if I did have to not get every head. Target.com carries these and has free shipping. I'd want to be sure about the safety on the floor first though.

Anonymous said...

Well I just received mine yesterday and cannot wait to try it out. My daughter and sister in law say they are the greatest things to use. I especially liked the triangle for the bathroom area, I will add more here when I try them. I also wondered with Amy as I have wood flooring as well. How could it get scratched??? Well anyway thanks for this review section.

I just bought the Shark Steam Pocket Mop and used it on my blonde hardwood floors. I am extremely happy with my purchase, since I was considering the Bissell steam mop for a lower price, but ultimately loved the swivel action on the Shark updated model. It makes going over the floors and around furniture a million times easier, and the steam was hot and dried quickly. I had read earlier reviews of the older Shark model complaining that the water was not heated enough to sanitize, but I put my hand near the port where the steam shoots out and it was at a high temperature. My entire apartment (almost all hardwood flooring) smells delicious. Note: I filled the Shark water casket with 1/2 water and 1/2 Bissell Steam Mop Eucalyptus-Scented Cleaning Fluid. This is contrary to Shark's proprietary directions, but the Bissell Steam Mop scented fluid is basically distilled water plus a little fragrance, so it's totally harmless.

I'm interested in the scented factor of the bissell. i've never noticed it before.

I am really interested in purchasing this updated version of the 'Shark Steam Mop.' Has anybody used it in their bathtubs/showers, not only in the tub itself, but on the walls of the shower/bathtub stalls (since it has the new feature of two-sided cleaning and a swivel head). Also, does it work well on baseboards. I live in an apartment and the bathtubs/showers are acrylic, which is almost impossible to keep really clean. Probably from years of use or something. I thought this mop would be perfect.

Unknown said...

OOPS, sorry, it's fiberglass not acrylic?

I purchased the previous model of this product, and the disappointment I experienced was the fact that the handle seems distinctly "flimsy" and it feels wobbly when you push it forward. The reason this is significant is that I felt it was not as effectively contacting the floor & each stroke irritated the nerve & muscular pain in my back. I was wondering if the new model is more solidly engineered, or if any other people had the same problem? It could very well be a problem unique to me because of the severity of the pain, but I would like to know if the handle feels cheap & flimsy on other people's steam mops?

Anonymous said...

I have the earlier version of this mop but ordered this one as it had more features. I used it once and now it doesn't want to steam the time I used it I loved it. I am returning it and hopefully they will not take long to replace it . When it worked it was perfect and did a wonderful job . I feel like my house is so much cleaner using the steam. I am still using the old one for now but for the bathroom I like the pocket one better as it has attachment to get behind the toilet and gets in the corners.
I will post again when they send me a replacement .

I just purchased the updated model today, and I actually cleaned all 3 stories of my home with it. It is the best investment I have made thus far. Luckily I found it local on sale and only paid $79, what a steal!!! Only question I have, what is the purple duster pad supposed to be used for??

I'm looking into buying this at my sister's insistence that it's the best thing ever. But she has hardwood and I have vinyl. Anyone have experience with that surface?

I just bought the Sharp Steam Pocket Mop at Costco for $95.00. I have laminate and pebble tech floors thoughout my whole house. I have used this product twice and so far am very happy with it. If you have hard water, you need to use distilled water to prevent streaks. I loved the long cord. I have had 2 other steam mops and they would leave water on the floor, this one does not. The purple pad is for use on laminate or wood floor as a duster or you can use it to clean your baseboards. The only issue is I am alittle worred about me using this product on my laminate floors and causing them damage. So far not issues.

Anonymous said...

I bought the H2O mop first but found it left my hardwood floors wetter than I wanted them to be.
I bought this mop from Costco for 94.00 with all three heads and a coupon for 25% off on additional pads.
I am thrilled with the job it had done on my hardwood and find they are just about dry when finished.
I highly recommend this mop.

my hubby got me one of these for my birthday. i have always wanted one and am a clean freak. i agree with the other review, takes about 2 or 3 minutes to heat and very little steam most of the time. i have a small 1,200 square foot (half carpet) house and it took me forever to get through it having to stop and let it reheat. you also have to pump it to get it to steam ALL THE TIME! i think it is as good as any 20.00 swiffer, but that even is too much money to buy the pads. you can pay for a shark after paying for replacment swiffer pads! i was not impressed with it, but it did clean, just not what i expected. i guess my floors dont get too dirty because i picked up very little on the pad. i took it back and am going back to my mop and diluted bleach water. was not worth the 100.00
*also the carpet glider is a joke. it warms and semi dampens the carpet and thats about it, but i dont think it really clams to do anything.
the shark did steam some and you could see the steam dry on the floor quickly, so it may be good enough for some. just dont think you can clean grout, clean fast, or get clouds of steam like the kind photo shopped on the internet.

Anonymous said...

Will the steamer damage walls (paint or wall paper) if you use the purple cover to clean baseboards?

Also, any more reviews on the carpet cleaner?

I do not have one yet, but I am considering purchasing one.

I just purchased my shark pocket mop a week ago and it is the easiest thing ever. I have a 1 and 2 year old and this mop has allowed me to enjoy cleaning the floors in my home more often. It steams up in less than 30 seconds and produces clouds of steam. You may want to check your voltage in your outlets because my mop gets extremely hot. Spots that would not have come up easily with a regular mop will come up super fast with this mop. I honestly love plugging this up and mopping everyday now. My kids leave some of the oddiest messes throughout my home. But truthfully the carpet glider does nothing, maybe I have not mastered it, lol. Carpet cleaners are for the carpet anyway and they work but I needed a better mop and I found it with the shark steam mop.

I LOVE my Sharp Steam Pocket Mop. I use it on all my floors including hardwood. This is the first time the hardwood feels like it's actually clean and I dont have to get on my hands and knees to dry the floors as I did when I damp mopped. You can see the steam dry. I have recommended it to 3 friends already.

I have been using the Swifter Wetjet for several years, and with a bad back and getting dizzy if I bend over, some spots just stayed on my floor because the Swifter couldn't clean them. After one time of using the Shark mop, I was shocked how it got up ALL those spots the Swifter couldn't touch. Also, with the Swifter, you can't turn it over, so once the pad gets dirty, I always felt like I was pushing the dirt over the rest of the floor and not picking up a whole lot more because the pad couldn't hold it. My Shark mop head was dirty after doing half my floor, so I flipped it over and finished the rest of the floor, picking up as much dirt as the first half (and I thought my floor was fairly clean before I started!). A few caveats: You do have to go over and over some difficult spots to get them clean, but when you are done, it is worth it and much easier than getting on hands and knees. If you really look at the commercial, the demonstrator DOES go over and over spots - he doesn't get it up in just one swipe, so I don't think they are misrepresenting that. Also, the mop was a little hard for me to push (it doesn't glide across the floor like the Swifter does). With my bad back and not being able to bend even a little without hurting, I raised the handle up higher and was able to stand upright with no further pain. I have wanted a steam mop for years, and I'm so glad I waited and got the next generation (Pocket mop), since it has the larger mop head, larger water cannister, longer cord, etc. I didn't have to wait more than 30 seconds for it to heat up as some have, the handle seems very solid, and releasing steam is easy (just mop). I couldn't be happier with the mop!

Anonymous said...

I just finished using the mop for the very first time and I'm not impressed. Yes, the pocket was dirty when I finished but my floors just don't look clean and the unit was very difficult to push/pull across my vinyl flooring. I'm going to pack it up and bring it back to BB&B for a refund.

I just recently bought the Shark S3501 steamer mop and I really like it. Although, out of curiosity, does anyone know what the temperature of the steam is and will it promote mold and mildew in my home?

I've used the carpet glider in my bedroom and also in my son's room. It was so easy and left the rooms smelling fresh and feeling clean!! The carpet is newer but the steamer made it very soft and I'm so please with the results! I absoluty love my steamer and so does my husband!! We have even taken off the attachment and steamed the curtains.

I have had my Shark Pocket Mop for a few weeks now and I love it. I use it every week and so does my husband. He rarely cleans but he enjoys using the Shark. I have recommended it to friends. I let a friend borrow it today and she loved it so much she's getting one tomorrow. She has a dog that is allergic to just about everything and hopefully the shark should help him. Highly recommend it!

Purchased the mop about 3 weeks ago. It cleaned very well and dried within a minute. It was hard to push on the vinyl floor like commented before, but I changed the angle (pushed with the handle closer to the floor) and that eliminated the problem. My Armstrong Solarian flooring has small pits and the steam mop cleaned these great. One drawback, no ON/OFF switch. Would like the pads to be a little thicker. But it is quick and easy to use - overall I like it!

I loved the original shark steamer, so when the new one came out I couldn't wait to get it. Now I which I never laid eyes on it. It scratched my Brazilian cherry hardwood floors. Many of you asked an earlier poster how? Well the pads are not as think as the original pads & so the plastic mop head scratched through. At first, I thought it was just streaks, but now I am so UPSET!

Anonymous said...

I would think you need to sweep the hardwood floors because of small rocks and things like that which could get stuck on the cleaning pad and scratch the floors

I've used mine on hardwood and tile for about a month. No scratches - I don't know how that could happen. I am so glad to have sanitized floors without chemicals! That should really be promoted.
I only have area rugs and have not yet tried the carpet thing.

I am NOT impressed with this "steam mop". It didn't clean my wood floors no matter how much I scrubbed. It didn't clean my baseboards of anything but dust. In my opinion, if you want a glorified, expensive dust mop, then you should be very happy if you buy this product. I can clean my floors better by using a scrub mop and a bucket of hot water than using this piece of Chinese junk.

I have Brazilian cumaru floors, and as long as you use the purple attachment you don't have to worry about scratching the floor. It is thicker than the white pads and I use those for my bathrooms. The only thing I am seeing is that I have a film on my hardwood floors and end up using a towel to remove it. Does anyone else have this problem?

I have had my pocket mop for about a week now I must say as soon as I bought it from kmart I rushed home to test it out. Within a few minutes the kids spilled soda on the floor so I thought what better time to test it out! Well I was NOT impressed at all it spread the sticky mess everywhere. But I decided to give it another whirl the next day and I now LOVE it I must have not let it heat up enough? I have honestly never seen my tile so clean even the grout looks cleaner (not spotless or anything but huge improvement over the swiffer and reg mop)the dirt that comes off my floor on these pads is disgusting!! I use it twice aday and its horrifying but satisfying to know that its cleaning so well. The carpet glider I don't really understand it claims to freshen and deodorize and thats all so I have only used it once. I think it did a horrible job on my baseboard and is awkward to handle. But as a mop I think it was worth every penny to not have to buy cleaners, mops, and fill buckets. HUGE time saver especially since it dries so fast I dont have to torture my kids anymore by keeping them out the room I just mopped!

I have the Shark steam mop that does not have the triangular pad. ('guess that would be the older(?) version).
I would have never purchased the mop because of negative reviews. But my mom ordered it. I have absolutely loved it on my kitchen vinyl and ceramic tiles in the bathrooms. I just stand amazed at how clean the kitchen looks after using it.
I notice that many of the posters here are enjoying using the mop on hardwood floors.
I would have been afraid of using it for hardwood if I had them because of it removing the shine. My instruction booklet even warns of this. I tried it once on the engineered hardwood in my entry foyer, and it did infact seem to lessen the shine.
I would be interested to hear the experience of hardwood floor owners.

I purchased the Steam Pocket Shark to help tackle those sticky messes my 2 year old leaves behind. I LOVED it. I used it often for 5 months but today it stopped steaming.

It was working yesterday and today, decided to quit after about 20 minutes. I think it is clogged but can't seem to unclog it! HELP!!! I LOVED IT!

I have had my Shark Steam Pocet Mop (the newer version)for a little over 2 weeks now, and I LOVE IT! The first time I used it, my husband said that our hardwood floors (which are oak and cherry wood) looked like new! And, I have to say that the Shark left the wood floors shiny and so slick in one spot that I almost took a tumble! lol...but hey, I guess that was a sign that they were very clean! And, we have ceramic tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms. It definitely did clean in there, but it did not get down into the grouts...but then gain, nothing besides the ole mop and brush on your hands and knees does that...
And, the Shark makes me actually want to clean the floors!!! It makes cleaning fun!

I also ordered the new HAAN floor sanitizer and cleaner. It came today and it will be leaving tomorrow. The head does not pivot (like the Shark), making it virtually impossible to clean around places like the toilet and tight spots in the kitchen. And, the pads are larger than the steam head and it didn't seem like they were on there very well.
It did feel sturdier than the Shark...but I think I will keep the Shark.

Does anyone know if the steamer is safe for travertine stone flooring?

Baseboards: Can anyone tell me how to use it to clean my baseboards? The part with the pad isn't stable enough to firmly press up against baseboards. Am I doing this wrong?

I brought this product today. I still have to test it but I have one question? Where can you purchase the pads separately if you want. I brought my mop from sams club.

I upgraded to the new version yesterday -- got a deal at Sam's Club for $100.00. I love it even more than the first version, because of the things already mentioned above; larger water tank, larger mop head and longer cord. The build is sturdier this time around and the telescoping handle is wonderful because I'm taller. I have all hardwood floors and it does a magnificent job...not noticing any scratches but my big Viszla (hunting dog) has left his share so I just may not notice them!! My favorite thing is to clean the floors and walk around barefood and feel just how clean they are. The bathroom tile was disgustingly dirty. I went through one entire flat pad and both sides of the triangular pad before I wasn't picking up dirt any more. What a great feeling to have them clean now!

The reason you need to use distilled water and you should be using this type of water in your iron is so the chemicals and minerals in your tap water does not corrode your iron and other appliances. The last longer when you use distilled water. My iron is 23 tears old and is still working great because I use distilled water since day one.

I PURCHASED THE ORIGIONAL SHARK STEAM MOP AND IT WORKS GREAT BUT, THE ONLY THING THAT BUGS ME ABOUT IT IS THAT NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU VACCUM FIRST BEFORE USING IT, THE SHARK TENDS TO LEAVE DUST LINES ON MY WOOD FLOORS THAT I HAVE TO GO BACK AND WIPE UP. I HAVE JUST PURCHASED THE UPDATED VERSION AND I AM HOPING THAT BEING ABLE TO FLIP THE POCKET HEAD OVER WILL SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

i have the original shark and love it... however, i find that it just pushes dog fur around... i push it all to the edge and then have to go around with a sponge and wipe it up... does anyone else experience this? does it happen with the new one...ps i always dust mop first...and am amazed that there is fur left on the floor...

I love my steam pocket mop. I downsized to a 1600 sq ft home and originally still had trouble cleaning my 'fixer upper'. Then I got the steam pocket mop. On my newly refinished hardwood floors it rocks! My real tile shines, and on my old vinyl tile floors...omg they actually look good! And on my new cork floors it's wonderful too. But I do have a Irobot robotic vacuum cleaning up all the dog hair, bits of stuff, and dust first. Never use fabric softner and wash all the pockets in the washer (I line dry them too just ot be safe). BUY THIS cut your cleaning time to 1/4th! Oh and I use a lil bit of white vinegar in the kitchen....I pour a lil bit on the floor, about the size of a tennis ball...floors look great and it deodorizes the whole house!! (no vent in kitchen)

btw...I'm about to purchase the Shark Cleaning tool with the 5 heads (not the 3 offered at Walmart and similar retailers) since I love my mop.....

I have the original version and love it. My floors are clean and dry immediately. Yes, there is dust/fur (two cats)residue that I have to wipe up after mopping. I am appalled that that was probably left on the floor with my conventional mop. Now I can see it and deal with it.

I just bought a house with laminate flooring and I am worried the steam mop will warp my flooring any problems with this?

I purchased one today and tried it on my laminate floors, used distilled water, and it still left a film all over the floors. Not happy at all.....

I purchased the Shark Pocket Steamer yesterday. I awoke today excited to power clean my home and set out on a germ busting mission. Unfortunately, I was left with plenty of dust and grime and disappointment to accompany it. I had read countless reviews in my search for an affordable steamer. I am bewildered at how many people find this product either convenient or effective. The steam was a temperature that allowed me to place my full hand under the jet at any given time throughout the cycle use. My clothes steamer gets so hot I nearly scald my fingers!!!

I am also perplexed by the fact that multiple users find the water tank to "last for a long time". Clearly, they do not have any challenging areas to clean, as trying to clean my stove top effectively proved to empty the tank after only two burners were scrubbed. I keep my home quite clean. Hence, the burners were not filth ridden. They had some build up on the gas burner grates that I was trying to successfully clean without the use of something harsh like "Easy Off". Ultimately, that is what I used to end up cleaning them to the state of new.

I was so looking forward to tackling some big projects today with this tool. Instead, I now going to be stuck in lengthly return lines at the store for a refund.

If you are a "type A" personality and like your home to have that deep down clean that gives you a sense of peace, this is NOT the machine for you.

I order the pocket mop on TV, firstly I recieved the older version for a gift and returned it to Lowe's and decided to spend the extra money for the more improved one. I have done some research and find that the mops do not last very long and I have real hardwood flooring and do not want to damage it, the kind that has to be sanded and 4 coats of finish put on it. After my research I called back and tried to cancelled my order, which they would not agree to do until they realized I had my credit card number changed so they were not able to charge. All of a sudden I was cancelled. I have wanted this mop for some time and I read the above reviews and find that I do not think I want to spend 100. or more $$ on something that might or might not work. If they can come up with a steam mop that is good I will be the first to get it. The phone number that I used to cancel is 1-800-798-7398 and be ready for a wait of about an hour, this is their customer service . Terrible customer service and could not understand the gentleman who was from some other country. I like to do business with people that I can talk to and understand and they me, I may be from the south but give me a break. Already dissatisified and never recieved my mop/.

I got the new pocket mop for christmas and although I used only distilled water it leaves a white film on my hard words and my vinyl alike. I saw that there was someone above who saw this as well. Could it be grime or chemical build up from years of chemical cleaning? I wanna make sure I'm not hurting my floors.

Anonymous said...

I am wondering if the bissel steam mop will give better results? I am wanting to get a mop that will last.

Anonymous said...

I got this mop a week ago and love it. I have laminate flooring, and I do still notice streaking and a weird hazy almost greasy mottling. I think the problem is two years worth of using murphy's oil soap, and the steam is dulling the build up. Not really suprizing. Will try some vinegar in a spray bottle next time and see if it works.

I'm shocked at those who find it doesn't get hot, or that it doesn't clean. My goodness mine gets rip roaring hot with clouds of steam. Sometimes upon turning it on, it doesn't make any sound and doesn't steam, but if I pump it, there it goes. I suppose it depends when I plug it in if its standing straight up or leaning slightly.

Beware ordering this off of TV. I ordered Dec. 15th and it was promised by DEc. 4th for Xmas. never came and stsill have not received 1/10/2010. I have called several times to some person abroad India or other. getting the run around on refund now. BEWARE I finally bought one at Sams for much less.. who would have thunk!

I am looking to hear comments on the new Haan steam mop (SI-35R) and how it compares with the new Shark Steam Pocket.

If you're a costco member they're $95 with $15 more off with the January coupons. I was just using a Swiffer before, so this is way better.

I just bought the Shark pocket steam mop yesterday and am looking forward to trying it out. I bought distilled water as my tap water is pretty hard. Sure hope it works as it says.

Bought mine at Costco and initially had streaks on my laminate floor. Switched to the purple pad and distilled water and it worked great! Streaks are gone. Mine got really hot and lots of steam came out. Like others, I have tried many, many different mops. Swiffer gave me horrible streaks as well. It was a good deal at Costco with the $15 coupon.

Can anyone tell me how it does as far as cleaning the grout on tile floors?

I purchased my Shark Steam Mop at Costco with the $15 off deal they had for January - that was a great deal. Now, however, I have heard through a few friends that they used this product on their wood floors, and over a months time it warped them because the steam got between the boards even though they are a sealed hardwoods. I'm sad to hear this though, because I have engineered hardwood floors and was hoping to have an easier time cleaning my them. I did use the mop once with the purple dust mop (which is made for wood floors), and was pleasantly pleased by its performance. But, now I'm not sure that I should continue to use this product on my floors for fear of long term damage that it may cause. Has anyone else experienced this warping effect on their hardwoods?

Just watched infomercial for Portable Shark pocket mop which is small and completely handheld. I'd like to get the regular mop but need to steam clean my sofa. Has anyone done that? Can it be done?

Hi all, i recently bought the pocket mop and have tried it twice on my dark, hardwood floors. The first time I saw streaks with a film deposit..the second time (today) i used distilled water and i'm seeing the same thing!! ANy ideas as to what may be going on?!? Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Also, I was using the white pads only...haven't used the purple dust mop...could that be it!?

Anonymous said...

I have the same issue with my hardwoods. I used it and it is left filmy. I hear that you have to use it a couple of times to get all of the chemicals off the floor. Since hardwoods are finished with a wax this is what is getting pushed around. I also left it on my floor sitting for about 10 minutes to go do something and it left a white spot. Thank GOD my husband told me to use windex on it. It came right out. I love it but not pleased with the film it leaves behind. I will keep trying. It is convienent for me and my company since we clean foreclosed homes and do not always have access to water. So for me to bring a bucket and steam clean is great!

Anonymous said...

I use my Shark on my travertine floors and it works very well. However, I do use distilled water when I do my floors.

Anonymous said...

I bought mines in august 2009 and just tried using it and I'm not getting any steam. I have used distilled water and followed the book to the very instructions they give. I googled the question "warranty on steam mop" and got a lot of reviews about the same problem. Someone suggested to add salt and others agrees it works,so I am going to try that and see if it works. Ill post after but if it doesn't I'm sending it in for a new one

I bought the steam pocket mop and the handheld steamer with attachments about a month ago.

At first impression I didn't really like it and thought about returning it because it appeared to clean at just the little area of the head around the base. I read the instructions too before I used it and was upset that I just spent all that money on this thing. Then I gave it a second chance and let the steam flow a little better. As a mother of 4 it works great cleaning the floors fast but definitely not as fast as they say. I've gotten the hang of the steam mop now and actually love it but I will have to add that in my house it almost has to be a daily thing. You can't wait a week before you clean the floor again becuase it takes the mop a lot longer and you go through two pads. I've used all the attachments and they are pretty good especially when a "cold/flu" is in the house. I've reduced our sick time since I've had it as well.

My first impression of the hand held steamer was similar to the pocket mop. I have gotten the hang of it as well. It cleans pretty good too. I have the vinyl(?) wall lining in the shower and the vinyl(?) tub covering the old original. They are not the easiest to clean in the first place and the chemicals worked better on it but have ruined them. The steamer is doing pretty good. I have a hard time getting the attachments (cylinder & flat head) to clean the curve at the bottom of the tub.

Overall, I would have to say they are both great. They are great to have if not for anything other than germ removal from the door knobs and floors to the couches and beds. I would reccommend it of course if you can afford it. So look for the bargins and deals on them.

has anyone had problems with it clogging or stop working? i have read reviews on another site that said after a few months it stopped working because of mineral build up. anyone else have these issues?

Anonymous said...

I purchased this mop last week at BB&B with the 20% coupon it was only $105. with tax. I have only used it once on my hardwood floor. At first it left it filmy and streaky, but figuring it was the build up of the chemical cleaner I have been using for the past year I went over it again. Actually it took abour 4 times using all four cleaning surfaces to get my floor perfectly clean but it looked awesome when I was done and seems to stay cleaner now that the build up is gone. I also used it on my bathroom tile floors and it worked wonderfully. I love this mop. It makes cleaning the floors so much easier and I really feel that they are sanitized, especially the bathroom.

I have twin 2 years old boys, and i wanted something that was going to save me time and money. I have tile and hardwood flooring througout the house, then just carpert int he bedrooms. The duster(purple pad) works great on base boards. The mop was horrible on my tile .. It did steam te surface, but didnt get tough messes up. The grout in between the tiles,it didnt even touch. I was not impressed, and my husband it currently taking it back to walmart as we speak. It did cost me 99.00 before tax,and i believe this product not to be worth the money! Thanks,Brooke Canada

excellent reviews. 90% positive.
Are the 10% negative an error of users or a lemon product getting thru?

After seeing an infomercial and reading all the great reviews, I decided to take the plunge and bought the steam pocket mop yesterday. I have white ceramic tile and pergo in my house, so I thought for sure this would perform miracles and get the ground in dirt from my white tile.

I was hugely disappointed in the way it performed on my ceramic tile that I just threw it back in the box to be taken back to Costco and used my Swiffer Wetjet to finish the floors. This mop is really nothing special, and the swiffer pad was far dirtier after doing the kitchen than the steam mop pad. Save yourself a ton of money and get a swiffer.

Purchased the Euro Pro S3501 from Bed Bath and Beyond in September 2009. I loved it when it was working. 8 months later it is not working. It will not get hot and steam will not come out. After talking to some people I could not understand, I have to pay shipping to them and shipping to get it back to me and wait 6 - 8 weeks to get it back...... ugh.

I bought a pocket steam mop a few months ago and after using it on my vinyle floors I found it left horrible streaks. Thought it was just the fact that the pad was dirty so I changed it but things didn't improve. I returned it to Best Buy and got my money back. Found that I can mop my floors with a mop and bucket faster and without the struggle it takes to push the steam mop.

Big waste of money!!

I had researched steam mops for weeks, reading comments like the ones above on all makes and models and finally made my decision. I also saw some floor models in the stores and the handle on the Shark is much sturdier than others. I purchased the Shark Steam Pocket Mop and LOVE IT!! I treated myself to it last winter and I have had no regrets.
I live in a rental where the parquet floors have not been refinished in years and have old linoleum in the kitchen and bathrooms. This mop does a great job and I have recommended it to many including all of my family. I have even offered to take it to their homes so they can test it…has not happened yet.
My only complaint is that it does seem hard to push, it does not seem to glide across the floor as shown in the infomercial or as others have described above. Just a little more elbow grease I think, but I will take note of a comment above that I may need to tilt a bit so it is easier to glide. The purple duster seemed difficult to move on my parquet floors as they are so dull and have not been refinished I find it takes much more strength to push it than I feel is good for the unit. Though I will try again! I have not yet tried the carpet attachment but will.
I highly recommend this steam mop. I have had no problems with it warming up, it takes seconds for mine, not minutes like others have described above. Have I said that I LOVE IT!!

I think this is terrible! This is the 2nd Shark product. The first I purchased, and this mop was a gift. It worked great at first, and after about 12 uses, it doesn't steam up. Cold water drips out. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.

I own the Shark Steam Mop and find it is hard to push across my hardwood floors. My back is killing me after I use it.It works good on tile.I called to explain to the company but got only someone I could hardly understand and just sorry, and have a nice day.I will do more research next time and find something better but vowed to not use it again. It is not worth the backache!!

I'm interested in buying a Shark steam pocket mop. I saw the latest TV infomercial and went to the "shark pocket mop offer" website. Expensive, ($159) but you also get a portable steamer that is shaped like an iron with two pads. I would like something like this to clean counters, but I calculated that it is actually costing me about $40 (although they say it is free). I have seen no reviews on this portable product. It must be a new design. Does anyone know anything about the "iron" design portable steamer? Next question: Does anyone know the promo or coupon codes for ordering on the website? Thanks!

I bought my steam pocket mop via the infomercial. It came with no issues and very timely. I used it at first and wasnt really impressed and then tried it a few days later, and again wasnt impressed. After reading good reviews, I decided to figure out what I was doing wrong LOL. Sure enough, I didnt have enough water in it. It still "steamed" but wasnt quite enough. I was used to a smaller steamer that required little water. As soon as I put more water in it and waited about a minute (could have been done earlier, I just waited that long) It worked GREAT. There was plenty of steam and took stains from my kids and St Bernard off my floor!

The "Iron" style: I have that too and cant really say much about it, I tried it on my walls and counters and it was awkward. I want to try it out further though before I really decide I dont like it.

I LOVE the long cord with both products though, really helpful!! Dont be afraid to push it faster, it actually helps create more steam.

Anonymous said...

Might I also say that I thought the handle was a good height for me but experimented adjusting it up more and it actually helped with pushing and pumping. It GLIDED across my floor! I have travertine tile in my foyer and linoleum in my kitchen, NO PROBLEMS either one!

In my opinion, if its hard to push, you probably dont have enough water in the tank thus not enough steam to make it glide.

Anonymous said...

I love this mop except my second one just broke and only lasted about six months each. It stopped letting the steam out. This is a real problem with this mop. The manufacturers need to fix this problem.

Anonymous said...

I LOVE mine!! If you aren't able to get your floor clean with your pocket mop, make sure you're using the right attachment. I was initially disappointed but used it one more time. That's when I realized that the purple loop mop head will NOT clean my floors but the white terry one does an amazing job (I've heard some friends have the opposite experience). There is a slight learning curve like with most products of this type, but if you give it a few tries, chances are you'll love it. Do me a favor and don't return it until you've used it more than once! I'm so glad I didn't!

Anonymous said...

I have noticed people complaining about the product don't read instructions properly and the purple duster is for hardwood floors not the other pads. People have been using the other pads on hardwood, it's the purple pad for wood floors.

I was interested in purchasing the shark steam mop but was unsure how it would hold up in a commercial setting. It would be using it in a restaurant and I think it would be a good option for controlling greasy floors but a little unsure of the structure strength for high usage.

I tried to order one on the phone as i saw the infomercial. They were offering all the goody's with it plus free shipping. when i was placing my order they were charging me $29.95 shipping fee, i told the lady that the commercial was offering free shipping why are you charging me she had no answer and put me on hold and then hung up on me. So i called back and the same thing happened. the third time i called the lady gave me a customer service number and they were just as worse. i couldn't understand them they were somewhere from India... I spoke to a supervisor and he was even worse didn't even let me finish explaining my question i kept say hello and he hung up on me too.I had the worst experience ever with these people they offering free shipping and a 60 day return money back free shipping. they are ripping people off with they infomercial even online it says free shipping but that a bunch of bull!!! Please be careful of what your getting. i'm really upset that a can't enjoy this so called wonderful product! But i will no be screwed for shipping if they stand by there product like they said they will.

I just got my Steam Pocket Mop the day after Thanksgiving and I can say I Love,Love it. My kitchen vinyl floor looks and shines like new. Could not believe how it cleans. I used it again today and had very little dirt to show on the pad. I know its clean. The first time I used it i could not believe how much grease my old mop was leaving around my stove. Did i forget to say how much i love it?

We just bought one today, and used it on a ceramic floor and a clean kitchen laminate,,,I HATE IT.. It leaves streaks on both.. I had to go over both floors with a regular mop, it's going back..We can use the $100.00 for something else. I can mop way faster and better lots of other ways. Lots of time involved with the pads, etc.

Can anyone tell me why your raving about a product that cost £100? Strewth! ONE HUNDRED BRITISH POUNDS for this? For that money I would expect it to fill itself and clean all floors while I watch TV. I would sooner get on all fours and clean the floor with a toothbrush and bleach. Honestly!!! £5 worth of plastic and a heating element! Lets not forget a long lead. I can only imagine that it is this price because enough idiots are willing to spend their money on it. Well count me out! I'll stick to mop, bucket, boiling water and disinfectant @ £10 or less.
A good choice of name I reckon, "Shark", you couldn't make it up lol.
Well! Thanks for your time, but I have a floor to clean CHEAPLY & QUICKLY, but clean never-the-less

I fell for the infomercial, what can I say? Very disappointed. First, yes, there are a few attachments, but unfortunately the heads come off with GREAT difficulty. In fact, it's so hard to disattach the main head, I just keep it on. I called to complain but there is no proper customer service! (After my first complaint I lost the connection and when I tried calling again - quite a few times - there was a very odd dial tone!) Second, even though I really love the idea of steam cleaning, the floors look as grimy as ever, I am so frustrated. Third, even though I haven't used my mop that much, yesterday when I plugged it in and was waiting for it to steam up, there was a minor explosion, in sound only, and then I realized while mopping, it was dripping dirty water. Weird! They should offer free shipping for those who want to return it. Unfortunately I didn't pursue the matter. I wish I had waited for a better named brand to come up with a lighter, more effective, easy to handle steam mop. I paid around $130 for this piece of disappointment.

Anonymous said...

After reading all of these comments, I felt I should contribute. I can't imagine how the one lady, Amy, scratched her wood floors unless she forgot that you need to put a pad over the plastic head? That or she didn't sweep up before she steamed. Anyway, I will say I have had my mop for about 2 years and yes, occasionally it has been a pain to keep it steaming. But when it does get it's steam going, it is an awesome piece of equipment. I am highly disappointed in the handle though. Recently I was bending down to pick something up inbetween swipes and the handle snapped in half. Now I have the white version of the now purple one. It's not the first they made, maybe the second "improved" version. The "adjusting" handle is two pieces secured by a PLASTIC gripper. Well, it busted and I can't use my mop anymore. To replace it, I have to buy the whole handle. Bummer, it's $31.95 plus $8 s/h. So it's a win/win situation for them. They either get my $40 and wait for my 2 year old mop to break/die or I go out and buy a new $100 mop and hope the same doesn't happen. By the way, I bought a temp sponge mop......so yes, I have already wasted $10 just making a decision on what to do with the Shark. I love the Shark, and I want another, I am just upset with the way they handle satisfaction and keeping a customer. Maybe I will just shop other brands.
